DIY Hobby Horse Bubble Wands

Last week I shared many details from my son's recent Cowboy birthday party (Liam's Round Up) including the handmade Hobby Horse Bubble Wands.  These party favors came about a bit by accident, I was perusing the internet on the search for a free Hobby Horse pattern and came upon the wonderful tutorial by Hopeful Homemaker.  I thought how cute would my dessert table look with miniature Hobby Horses on display? Well, one idea evolved to another and I ended up with Hobby Horse Bubble Wands!

Instructions:
Visit the Hopeful Homemaker's blog and follow the wonderfully detailed "How to Make a Stick Horse" directions with the following exceptions:
  1. DO NOT enlarge the Hopeful Homemaker's pattern, just print at 100%.
  2. I decided on minky fleece and yarn, instead of felt because that's what we had readily available. However you can use almost any fabric you want if you use yarn as the mane.  You could even use bandanna fabric, how cute would that be?
  3. Substitute a bubble wand for the dowel.
  4. Tie the stuffed horse head to the bubble wand with a scrap of fabric, do not glue it on. This allows the head to be removable so it doesn't get wet when the kids blow bubbles.

Giddy Up! Now the whole gang can ride off into the sunset with their new Hobby Horse Bubble Wands!

Have fun and thanks for visiting!

DIY Petal Garland

Happy Thursday!

Today I'd like to show you how to make the Flower Petal Garland from our Easter Party!

I've had these flower petals in my craft stash for a long time, I don't remember why I bought them but I finally put them to use at our Easter Party. I found them in the wedding isle at Joann's Fabric Store. This particular pack also has tulle petals which I love for this project.

All you need is:
  • Petals of your choice (you can also use paper circles, paper squares, paper doilies or cupcake liners)
  • sewing machine
  • thread of your choice (I used white for this project)
  • 20 minutes to spare
You don't need to be a master seamstress to do this project, all you need to know is how to sew a straight line using a long stitch.

To make it easier on myself, I separated the tulle petals from the fabric petals then stacked them in piles of 20.  Each of my strands had 40 petals for the space I wanted to cover. I made a total of 24 strands for my backdrop.

Start your machine and make sure you have a bit of a thread lead then start sewing your petals.  I spaced mine about 1 inch apart just to give them a more "suspended look" but you can sew them close together if you choose.

Sew the petals to your desired length.  When you are done, back-stitch and leave enough of a thread "tail"  for hanging.  I tied the thread to a strand of tulle and ribbon to hang as my backdrop.

And there you have it! A pretty petal garland for your next party...you can also use the same technique to make your own leis for your next luau!

Thanks for visiting!

P.S. Was this tutorial useful? I'd love to see your comments and projects!

Meringue Bird Nests & Freebie Friday Easter Roundup

Happy Good Friday!

Today I'm sharing the Easter Bird Nests I made yesterday.  I was so excited when I found empty meringue nests at World Market.  So many ideas went through my mind, you can fill them with almost any sweet treat, whipped cream, fresh fruit, the possibilities are almost endless!  I immediately knew what I wanted to fill them with for Easter, colored coconut and jelly beans.

What you will need:
1 Package of Meringue Nests
Jelly Beans (chocolate candy covered candies or chocolate malted eggs would be great too!)
Green Food Coloring
1/2 cup of Coconut Flakes

Step 1:
In a small mixing bowl, add 2-3 drops of food coloring to the coconut and mix.  I used a fork to sift the coconut and evenly spread the food coloring.

Step 2:
Fill the Nests with coconut and top with Jelly Beans of your choice.

And that's it! A quick and easy Easter treat!  These would also be great for an owl party any time of year!

More Eggs-ellent Uses for Water Bottle Wrappers

Happy Wednesday!

Last week I posted about using our Water Bottle Wrappers as Easter egg holders (see post here), today I'd like to share a couple more fun ways to use them at your next party.  I used our Easter themed wrappers from our Easter collection just because I am getting ready for our Easter Brunch, but these tips aren't limited to Easter. You can use any themed water bottle wrapper all year around.

Use them to wrap bubbles as party favors.  I found these adorable duck and frog bubbles at the Dollar Tree, aren't they cute? They would be great for a first birthday party too!

You can also use wrappers as napkin rings!

DIY Easter Craft - Egg Critter Shelf Sitter

Looking for a cute Easter activity for the kids? My two older sons and I created these cute little egg critter shelf sitters to hide around the house for my youngest son to find on Easter morning.  These are also great to keep the little hands busy while you put the finishing touches on your Easter festivities.

What you will need:
1. plastic Easter eggs
2. pipe cleaners
3. double sided tape or Zots
4. permanent marker
5. puff ball for bunny tail
6. googly eyes

Step 1:
Stick the pipe cleaner through the holes at the top of the egg.

Step 2:
Loop the pipe cleaners to make bunny ears.

Step 3:
Stick pipe cleaners through the holes of the bottom half of the egg for legs, curl them to make them look like bouncy springs.

Step 4:
Adhere a puff ball to the rear end area of the egg for a tail.

Step 5:
Adhere googly eyes and draw in a nose, mouth and whiskers.

And that's it! An adorable Egg Critter Shelf Sitter!

Enjoy and thank you for visiting!!!

Eggstra Eggstra!

Happy Wednesday! Today I want to share with your a quick DIY craft for your Easter table using our Free Easter water bottle wrappers.  Our wrappers not only fit perfectly on water bottles and glass beverage jars, they can double as plastic egg holders for your party table!

Print on card-stock then just cut along the lines of the wrappers, adjust to fit as a base for your plastic Easter egg and secure with double sided tape.

Then write your guests names on the egg using your favorite permanent marker. Vinyl lettering works great too! (I also sneak in a special surprise in the egg.)

And that's it! A cute personalized place "card" for your party.

Eggstra tip:
Cut them out with decorative scissors for extra flare.

Thanks for stopping by, stay tuned for more Easter ideas!
